Murals: These can be painted
directly to your wall, or they can be painted on a canvas that is applied to
your wall, and therefore moved if you move...
Faux Finishes/Textures: A
wider range of possibilities can be seen in Lisa's sample board portfolio.
Custom sample boards are typically created before a finish is applied to
your wall.
Trompe L'Oeil (pronounced
tromp loy): This literally means "fool the eye", and this detailed form of
painting is meant to create an optical illusion. It can be large scale as
in a very realistic landscape, or it can be small and whimsical like
painting a realistic droplet of water that your guests try to wipe off every
time they visit. You can also creatively fool the eye with decorative
finishes such as marble, tortoise shell, wood grain, or bamboo, for example.
Portraits: Typically painted
on canvas, these can be done in oil, acrylic, watercolor paint, or they can
be drawn with charcoal or colored pencils. You have the option of sitting
for a portrait, or you can have the artist work from a photograph.
Colors: When working
with faux finishes and paint, it is good to remember how colors can impact
your mood. Red, for instance, stimulates appetite and can also stimulate a
faster heartbeat and breathing as it brings energy and heightens the
senses. Blue, on the other hand, is known to be calming, peaceful, and can
bring down blood pressure. People are also observed to be more productive
in blue rooms. Read more about color and mood at
